Welcome!
Welcome to the Maddie’s Miracle website, my name is Robin Hunter, and this website has been created in honor of my daughter Madeline (Maddie) Rose Hunter. Maddie is the second of our 4 daughters, and was an energetic toddler, with a zest for life, a beautiful spirit, and the ability to love endlessly. She has 3 sisters, including younger twin sisters which sadly she never had the chance to meet. Some of her favorite moments in life were spent playing with her big sister Rhianna, dancing to the music her daddy played on his guitar, and spending those quiet moments cuddling with mommy as we read our bedtime stories at night. Those moments will never be more cherished than they are now that they are gone.
Maddie was unexpectedly taken home to heaven on the afternoon of August 26, 2005, after battling a sudden and severe onset of croup and pneumonia; she was merely 20 months old. The combination of the two viruses proved too much for her tiny body and after two days of being in an irrecoverable coma, we made the hardest decision of our lives…we had to let our little girl go.
Nothing has helped us cope with the loss of our sweet angel more than finding a way to make something positive happen as a result of it. Design Concepts, the company which my husband Mark works for has been instrumental in making this happen. They recognized our desire to achieve this goal, and developed a way to make it a reality… thus the idea for Maddie’s Miracle was born.
Maddie’s Miracle is a non-profit organization that we formed. We hold an annual fundraising event in which friends, family and colleagues can join us in honoring Maddie’s life, while at the same time helping to raise money for a wonderful cause. All of the proceeds from the Maddie’s Miracle event go to benefit the American Family Children’s Hospital who showed us such genuine and heartfelt support during our darkest days. Throughout our brief stay at the hospital, we were given the chance to experience firsthand not only the kindness, compassion and respect of the staff of nurses and doctors, but also the amazing programs that AFCH has in place specifically to help the families of its patients. AFCH understands that when a child is sick or suffering, the whole family is suffering right along with them; therefore they go above and beyond to make sure that the whole family is cared for, not just the child.
The money you donate to Maddie’s Miracle will go towards one of the most fundamental parts of AFCH’s whole family care approach, the Family Support Program. This program, which provides catered meals, lodging assistance, gas cards, phone cards, sibling care and so much more for the families of AFCH patients, can be instrumental in helping to shoulder some of the burden of these families, so their focus can remain where it is most needed, on their child.
So if you can, please, find it in your heart to donate what you can, we have raised over $80,000 to date, and we’re not even close to stopping!
Take our word for it….every dollar you give, can make a real difference in someone’s life.
Thank You,
Robin & Mark Hunter & Family
